Big Beautiful Doll was originally licence built early in 1951, in Australia, as a CA-18 Mk 22. Entering RAAF Air Force service in March of '51, she barely completed her acceptance trials before her military career ended and she was returned to storage.
At least that is part of the story. In fact the Australian Mustang was written off in a crash in 1969 in the hands of an early civilian owner. Parts of the Australian Mustang and of another ex USAF Mustang were used to "re-build" Big Beautiful Doll.
Big Beautiful Doll has been a stirling performer at UK air shows for many years but was recently sold and exported to Germany early in 2011.
